Founded by longtime friends Genevieve Laurent and Michel Altieri, Laurent & Altieri was born from a love of authentic Italian leather goods and a desire to create handbags that move seamlessly through a woman’s life from day to night, work to travel, structure to spontaneity. Every collection has been guided by one simple question: Is this beautiful, functional, and made to last?
A Story Rooted in Curiosity and Craft
Genevieve Laurent was born and raised in New York City, shaped by its pace, ambition, and creative energy. With a PhD in Pharmacy and a successful career in the medical field, she understood the demands of a full, modern life and the importance of accessories that could keep up.
At just 17 years old, a small leather shop on Bleecker Street sparked something lasting. The bohemian silhouettes, the richness of the leather, the individuality of each piece — it was the beginning of a lifelong appreciation for rare designs and artisanal quality.
As Genevieve grew professionally, she experienced luxury handbags from the world’s most recognizable fashion houses. Yet over time, she realized that confidence and self-worth did not come from labels alone. What mattered most were pieces that felt personal, purposeful, and enduring.
Italy, Friendship, and a Shared Vision
Michel Altieri, based between New York City and Milan, brought another essential layer to the brand. An artist known for his work in musical theater in Italy, Michel introduced Genevieve to the heart of Italian culture and, more importantly, to the artisans who preserve centuries-old leather-making traditions.
What followed was a true partnership rooted in friendship, creativity, humor, and mutual respect. Together, Genevieve and Michel began working closely with Florentine craftsmen, selecting leathers, shapes, and finishes that honor tradition while embracing modern expression.
